Forum: GratefulDead Subject: The View? It is indeed a cold day in Hell

"...The Dead will perform on "The Late Show With David Letterman" on Thursday, April 23. Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and touring guitarist Warren Haynes will be interviewed and perform acoustically on β€œThe View," Monday, March 30. Complete tour dates available here."

I wonder whose wife talked them into this one.

Letterman I can understand, but The View? Wasn't aware that show pulled alot of the aged hippie demographic.

I can hear the interview begining now:

"Jewie Gawciah passed away almost fawnteen years ago..."

But somehow, I'm really not surprised..."The View" seems to me like exactly the sort of show this band belongs on nowadays...a nice, safe venue to perform for weekend hippies taking their morning Starbuck's break before heading back to the office...(and I honestly don't mean that in a derogatory way- it is what it is). These geezers are about as anti-establishment as Wal-Mart.

Instead of Bawbwa Wa-Wa's voice, this interview question works equally as well with Elmer Fudd's voice.

No anger - I can accept a serious ass whuppin'. I thought we had a shot going into second half because we had been seriously outplayed and were only down a possession and thought the shots would fall. Not our night - and all credit due to Nova.

Then again, Duke should really fire their coach. The game is passing that guy by.

WTF!?

Seriously???

I don't follow them, BD, and of course, only out of respect for you do I even check the scores, and couldn't give you 2 cents worth of analysis on Coach K...were you tongue in cheek, or do you really think so?

Total tongue in cheek.

We have to give Capel a few more years at Oklahoma and Dawkins a few more at Stanford, wait for him to set all time win record, and then put him out to pasture and see who we bring back home.

Besides, we're really a football school....

1. A woman who saw the Dead play with the Allmans on 6/10/73 in RFK stadium as a lissome 22 year-old hippie chick is now a 57 year-old grandmother.

2. 57 year-old grandmothers watch "The View."

3. The Dead SHOULD THEREFORE play "The View." QED

Let's cut the Boys some slack, shall we?

I had to move this to this thread...from the email thread...
I am shocked by how offended I am about the idea of a View appearance....

The View appearance is more than selling out...its reaching for a buck in a culturally abhorrent setting that indicates these guys are either now oblivious or have just really become really willing to degrade themselves in any manner. Walters is so offensively inane that I would expect whatever shred of intellect the band might still have to have balked at that one.

They can only redeem themselves on that show if the fat one takes a hairy shit on the coffee table and someone tries go go down on Joy Behar on the couch...

So, does the fact that you once again infest these hollowed portholes with your inanities signal the end of your recent professional tribulations, or can we hope that this is but a temporary respite?

Hey!? We're working our butts off here to give you some small glimmer of hope...an opportunity for a break from your angst ridden (?) workday.

So, give us our due; where else can you read about your favorite post 79, pre Brent singing only on a Saturday night best song under four minutes long poll? Inquiring minds want to know, and we provide analysis of each and every conceivable angle of the entire DEAD experience, and then some. Not to mention the benefits, entirely unexpected, of the behavior of wives and children which might in some small way better prepare you to cope with yours...

Hmmm, maybe we should start charging for these wonderful services?

Hey, don't leave me hanging...what's yours?

Yeah, for a bunch of soically stunted, myopic, tunnel-visioned, OCD, hygenically challenged individuals we seem to do pretty well at providing one another a welcome distraction from life's travails.

But charging? Unless my name is somwhere in the stimulus package (sorry, not THAT package), I will have to defer.

Oh yeah--can't take that ONE back!

"Stimulus package"

Latest forumite jargon.

Uses: generally NOT appropriate for Dire's Shorts (rather, that is more typically termed a "de-stimulus", according to various females of various tetrapod lineages). Most often used in conjunction with "Miller Upgrade" or "Miss D" or "William Tell is looking for one" or etc., etc., etc.
